Enjoyed reading through this last night, especially the poems toward the back of the book, which are/read a little less "Greatest Hits" and perhaps less quotable than the Auden most people like. Something honest about the jumpiness of them.

The hardcover edition is a treasure and quite easy to manage considering the book is 900+ pages.

Given Auden was greatest English poet of his generation this is a volume one should not be without. True, Auden cut out some poems such as Spain, this one apparently for its Spanish Civil War era approval of summary executions and the like. But these gaps can be quickly closed by access to the internet where individual poems can be downloaded in a thrice. Thus a great and necessary acquisition to anyone's library.

Read for one of my English classes. I can't remember all of the details but I remember enjoying it. Some great poems in this book for sure. I had never heard of Auden before my class. Although my teacher made us by the book and we didn't read that many poems, I liked the poems enough to read some on my own. He is very Americana. Reminds me a bit of Robert Frost. I think you will find many that you love and won't be dissapointed.
