Tom is the person who wrote the first book for the Nurtured Heart Approach® for educators. He has since continued to develop his knowledge and ability to communicate the essential values that can go beyond anything we have seen before, like a middle school special education class in a poor district of Illinois advancing 3 full grades in 7 months. Unheard of? not when all these principles are applied. Just get it.
I've had the privilege of working with Tom Grove for 3 years and his teaching shaped my approach to teaching. I work at a title one school, servicing students with significant social and emotional problems. My district informally endorses a number of different behavior management systems including the PBIS and PBS curriculum. None of them are as effective at reaching upset students or facilitating lasting social and emotional growth. Tom give very clear, easy to follow advice on how to create a positive classroom community, how to reduce attention seeking behavior and deal with social emotional issues so that more time can be focused on academics. I highly recommend this to any person working with kids.
