I had to read this after I read the dragon series by Pillow. I am not gonna give you a re post of her blurb or ruin the story for you, I will just give you my thoughts.
I hated the cat shifters until I read this book, you get an insight into the sons of the cat shifter king. You could read this as a stand alone, however I would suggest reading the dragon series first. You will understand the female character in this book better, I was certainly surprise that she was Gena.
From the beginning I was worried this would not have a happily ever after, but yes in the end things work out. The first part of the book is about the romance, she isn't looking for love she is a spy or assassin and he is a king. He inheirts her as part of his father's harem when he becomes king. He wants peace but others want war, as a new king he feels he must stick to protocol but in comes "Gena" or Lyssa. What will the king do for love and what will Lyssa give up for love?
Knowing about this series, I feel like this book fleshed out the characters somewhat for future stories. The real plot and story did not start until half way through the book and could have been fleshed out much more. I was disappointed by the lack of plot story, the author could have had a much bigger book and more of a story when bringing all the characters together. I wanted to know so much more about prior character that I fell in love with. However, if this is your first book make sure you read on to get to the real plot.
There is sex in the book, but it isn't as hot as the other books. Again there could have been a little more written about the sex scenes. Everything seemed so rushed.
Overall I liked it because I have read the other books, know the back story and love the characters. I bought this book for $4.99.

With King Attor dead Prince Kirill is now King of the Var with an imminent war to diffuse, a mountain of responsibility and a mess of madness to clean up he is chronically tense. Kirill has been raised to not believe in full mates but he becomes challenged to maintain that philosophy when he finds Ulyssa wandering in his section of the castle. Ulyssa (aka Gena), is undercover for the HIA (Human Intelligence Agency), her mission to take out Doc Alexander, but since Princess Nadja did that her mission seems done, however, while she is waiting for her ride she is kidnapped by Attor and deposited in his harem and then forgotten as Attor was killed the same day, she watches for her chance to escape but gets lost and runs into Kirill instead. If Var had crystals it would be so much simpler as he would know what destiny intended, but where’s the fun in that? Instead Kirill and Ulyssa have a constant battle of wills, intense attraction, lack of communication, misguided sense of duty, and a real knack for doubting the feelings of themselves and each other. A truly wonderful story, full of passion and fear of loss, and the characters are as intriguing and lovable as those of the Draig. Highly recommend it!
And I thought all the Var were ugly cat people, yea right, I just got so hooked to the Dragon Lords that I thought all Var were bad and ugly....Well now I am in love with the Dragon Princes Dragon Lords and the Var Princes, I'll take one of each thank you.

No seriously King Kirill sounds so hot...After years of living under the tyranical rule of his father King Attor, Kirill must take his place as the new King of the Var. He wasn't prepared though, he never expected his father to die so soon and he isn't ready to rule, but certainly not as his father had. King Kirill wants peace with the Draig, not war!

Ulyssa Payne aka Gena (big boob) from the Galaxy Brides ship is really in disguise. She's on Qurilixen on a mission, till she's whisked away by the Var and falls into the arms a very handsome and enticing cat, King Kirill.

Man are those cats insatiable! Loved it, there was even a moment in the book that made me cry....What passion and I thought the Draigs were passionate, these guys have to drink something to keep them in check!

I can't wait to read about the next Var Prince...

There was a lot of action in this book and I enjoyed it very much.

The Savage King by Michelle Pillow is the first book in her Lords of Var series. The Var share the planet with the Draig and are their sworn enemies. This book begins about a week before the old King Attor’s death when he finds and captures Ulyssa who is hiding in the forest. Attor puts Ulyssa in the harem and promises to deal with her later, but he is killed by the Draig before that happens.

The Var princes are an interesting group, at first glance, they are nothing like the Draig. King Attor never took a mate and has taught all of his sons that to be mated to a woman and to love is to be weak. All of his sons seem to agree with this idea to some degree, but Kirill is starting to have possessive feelings for Ulyssa, and he decides that one night isn’t enough.

Totally recommend this as a good read. Well done.
