The book touches on just a very small part of his life. That of a teenager. I guess you need to read the series to get a thorough picture of him. I enjoyed it though.
Interesting, easy read of what life may have been like in Leonardo's time. I will read the next installment to see what happens in his later years.
This is not a particularly gripping story line. But it probably a fairly accurate description of the early years of Leonardo de Vinci and his apprentice years in the shadow of the Medici family. Interesting
This is an interesting book. You always here about him as a grown man. It is different taken from a young man's perspective, as well this book is written like a movie.
I really enjoyed this little book - it was a quick read and surprisingly vivid considering the minimalist descriptions. It was well written and researched and although parts were undoubtedly speculation, there was credibility. I really enjoyed it and will read more by Catherine Jaime!
This book had so much potential - exploring the life of Leonardo Da Vinci, the quagmire that was Italian politics in the Renaissance, the schemes of the Medici family - but never quite fulfilled it. The book is a quick read, less than 200 pages, and the primary feeling is that nothing ever really happens. The author spends a great amount of time laying groundwork for political drama between Lorenzo di Medici and traitors plotting against him, but never pays it off. 120 pages of hinting, of Leonardo being drawn into the possible conspiracy, of him wondering what it all means, only to wrap up the entirety of the conflict in less than three pages. To be sure, the author clearly knows Renaissance Italy, and the descriptions of the city are breathtaking, but the plot is never truly developed.
I liked the book, Leonardo the Florentine! It covers his young years starting as an apprentice which of course would lead to his life of art and invention and architecture. It also portrays his relationship with the Medici Family of Florence.
The story line portrays every day life and experiences. It gives you a feeling of being there. I have studied the art masters and found this book not only informative but an easy read!
I recommend it to anyone with an interest in art, early history of the Renaissance, of just a look at life in Italy in the in the 1400 & early 1500s.
