Occasionally by chance you come across a new author who’s writing and storytelling ability makes you think ‘where have you been all my life?’ Then by luck you get the book free from an Amazon daily deal. I know you’re thinking NO F-ing WAY-right? Well I’ve been just that lucky with this book!

This book is wonderfully well written and you are literally engaged with EVERY character along the way. You climb the tree house with Danny, stand outside the gate with her, nervous, scared, anxious and furious. You feel Austin’s emotions wane from fury, to admiration, heartbreak, love, mistrust and loyalty. Lying in wait beneath everything is the feud between the Cahill and Bennett families.

I laughed, cried, and cursed myself for not being able to read fast enough to turn the pages quicker. At one point in the story (a major detour) I was so pissed off at the author I couldn’t see straight (I mean seriously how could she do that to me, Danny, Austin and Mel?) and then I finished the book and slept on it. The ending was just as good as the beginning and middle. None of the character’s attributes suffered to wrap up the story and as the reader I was totally satisfied UNTIL I read the snippet at the end. WTF!!!
I found myself thinking….”if only I knew where J.A. Dennam lived, I’d totally go kick her tooch” Holy s***e! I think I know what it is about and if so ***SQUEE*** I’m so happy, like a sappy, sappy fan girl.
This book does not contain a cliffy, it wraps the story of Danny and Austin. Just don’t go to the end and read the preview to the 2nd installment.

J.A. Dennam has hit my radar hard and I’m excited to find out if her other works are as interesting as this one was.

A case of the Hatfield's and the McCoy's featuring the Cahill's and the Bennett's. Or...if you're on the romantic side...Romeo and Juliet.

Austin Cahill- The Hero. What an arse...the way he treated Danny and her brother Derek..it WAS all his fault, ALL OF IT! Sorry, just wanted to get that out of my system.

Danny Bennett - The heroine. A feisty, little firecracker. Loved her! She's adorable and kickass. I have a massive girl crush.

Derek Bennet - Danny's brother...loveable and a sweet, sweet brother, but oh so sad.

Loved the Cahill salvage crew, especially big Mac. I also had a soft spot for Shaw. Hope he gets a girl somewhere down the line.

Herb Bennett - Father of Danny.... Poor dad, it's a wonder Danny doesn't give the the guy heart trouble.

The whole suspense part of the story was ridiculously unbelievable.

But the story was entertaining none the less and darn it I stayed up way to late because I just HAD to finish it.

But before I cut loose with a rant/rave....What's this?!?.....OH HO!! There's a bk 2 already out and what the foo?!?! If you've read this bk better hurry and read bk 2 because things are definitely not what they seem in bk 1. Huh.....didn't see that coming. Interesting....
Before this book, J. A. Dennam was a new-to-me author that I discovered on Facebook and I was eager to read because Truth and Humility falls into one of my favorite genres – romantic suspense. When I saw that the 3rd book in her Captive Series was due to release on July 8th I thought that I needed to get caught up! and WOW!! Just WOW! This read definitely had romance and suspense and so much more!!

The back-story was covered and filled in without weighing the story down or making you feel like there was too much. We get glimpses of Danny’s best friend and the brother that she is closest to. We see the crew that works for and is loyal to Austin and we feel the love that he had for the fiancée that was taken from him and that he still morns. A diverse wonderful cast of supporting characters that I can see will fill in and make a great book 2, 2.5 and 3!

I loved the alternating points of view. It’s becoming important to me in the books I read. I want to know what both main characters are thinking not just a woman’s POV and wondering what the man thinks or feels. I thoroughly enjoyed the dialogue, the snarky bullets flying back-and-forth as well as the sweet and smoldering chemistry that the author made me feel coming from the pages. The suspense had me on the edge of my seat and turning pages faster and faster while a surprise twist brought me to tears and broke my heart!

I agreed with another review I read that stated that the Cahill-Bennett feud was very Shakespearean/Romeo and Juliet-ish and for me this added great angst and depth to the book. I will leave this a vague review because I do not want to give any of the plot twists away (and believe me there are a few twists I did NOT see coming!) just know that I highly suggest this book and the series and I am on pins and needles waiting to read more from this author!

This is one of those books that keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole way through. Austin and Danny’s family’s have bad past but watching them push and pull, love and hate, was one heck of a ride. I laughed, cried and swooned so many times when it came to this group of characters that I didn’t want it to end. I dong want to give to much away, but the mystery had me scratching my head and freaking out while I tried to find clues. It’s part of a series and I plan to read the next book because I have to know what’s going to happen with a secondary character. 4 Stars #2OCCJD
