Having never read anything by Olivia Gayle, she is new and refreshing. I originally read each serial, each was fabulous together it's just outstanding! Can't wait for more, just loved Ever and Aidan!

Loved this take on the shifter universe! I've been off shifter books for awhile because they were turning into excuses for lazy writing with little plot, a heavy reliance on cliché details, and a heavy emphasis on gratuitous sex,

Thankfully this is NOT one of THOSE stories! Olivia Gayle wrote an engrossing first novel that took everything I thought I knew about shifters and made it obsolete. Even the trite, true mate concept received an intriguing twist.

Ever, the heroine, is now one of my top fav characters. I admire how she took control of her life, still cared about her sister, Sonya, even though her sister's life had been so much easier, and still believed she (Ever) deserved true love and not just a biological connection.

Aiden, the hero, is not your typical, alpha jerk. While some of his instinctual actions cause conflict, he owns up to his mistakes and puts Ever's needs first. Readers also get to view his emotional responses first hand. The dual viewpoint serves the story well.

My only disappointment is that the supporting characters' love stories have not already been written. I definitely felt the urge to do some one-click shopping last night to read how they achieve their happily ever afters.
This book/short story, felt to me like it was just a rough draft and not yet ready for publishing.
It had missing words, typos, and the story did not match up.
Here is what I mean,
1 The star in this story is called "EVER Jackson"
it says her mom lost her and her sister Sonya Jackson when they were younger, and
they went into foster care, Sonya was adopted early on, but Ever was not. But even years later Sonya is still called
Sonya Jackson. If she was adopted she would not still be called Jackson...
2. Then Ever gets this phone call from her sister she has not heard from in years, frantic, scared, come help me call.
When Ever gets to the town her sister was living in by the address she left on the voice mail she finds her sister is missing.
When first Ever talks to police they say No missing persons report has been filed,
then later it says 3 days before Ever gets to Arcadia Sonya's' adopted parents filed a missing persons report on her.
Things like this is why I say...it has not been edited or proofread.and not ready to be published yet.

The story is a decent one, besides the name of the star "Ever" getting confusing at times.
BE WARNED It has Cussing, Detailed Sex, and Violence.

It does have an ending, although I was not happy with how her sister treated her at the very end.
That was also confusing to me as a reader...
3. In the ending just minutes before Sonya treated her sister good and was protective of her,
minutes later she then turns into this zombie girl who doesn't even want to look at her sister or talk to her.
And the powerful father, in the ending why if through this story many times father is able to stop shifters in their tracks with just his mind, in the ending fight his son had one heck of a time fighting, when his dad was right there. .

The ending is good but in parts just did not make sense. Did not come together right.
But it is not a cliff hanger... which is good, but as I read the reviews for book 2 I see that books 2 and 3 are cliff hangers
and this author even says how sorry she is for leaving them hanging.. NOPE not a scam I will BUY into.
And don't expect really hot sex scenes, to me they were dull and boring, sounded to me like they were written by a man.
Just my opinion which is what a review is all about, the readers opinion...
I think this author needs to go back over this book and edit it some more, but I don't think she cares enough about her work to do so when I can read reviews from other books of hers and they all say the same thing.. needs editing. .

The story itself is a good one, it has potential to be really good with some fixing up.

This is the first book I've read by Ms. Gayle, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I'm glad I tried it because it was a very enjoyable read. The book was well written and I think that any editorial problems other reviewers noted have been corrected. There were missing words in one or two places, but that was all I noticed.

The world building was excellent. The descriptions of the shifter town and community, the dynamics of the social relationships, shifter mores and pack hierarchy, as well as the rules set up for how and why shifting occurs, are all aspects that contribute to a rich world with multiple layers.

I liked the hero and heroine. The hero was sweet and very patient, while the heroine was loyal, feisty and just cynical enough to actually believe what she sees and is told about the shifter population. Her attitude seems to be that with her bad luck, why wouldn't shape shifters be real and there with her. In addition, the secondary characters were well drawn and not simply one-dimensional.

The plot was interesting and the story held my interest; it was fast paced and very engaging. There were a few explicit sex scenes, but nothing that slowed down the storyline. There were references to one character having been raped multiple times, but this occurred off the page and there were no explicit details. I found this to be a very entertaining book and I recommend it to anyone who likes paranormal romance.
